Turkey, The Black Sea Region

Tour Description

For those who are passionate about the history of the ancient world, a trip to Turkey, along the coast of the Black Sea, following in the steps of Jason and the Golden Fleece, might just be all they need to satisfy their craving. Throughout 13 unforgettable days, you will visit some of the most important cities of the oriental world – Istanbul, Amasya, Sumela and Cappadocia – that will impress you through their sublime architecture and natural wonders.

Your journey starts in Istanbul, The Gate of the Orient, where you will have the chance to visit the city by foot or by enjoying a cruise on the shores of Bosphorus. Galata Bridge, the Bosphorus Straits, the ancient Pera, Rumeli Hisari Fortress and Ciragan Saray… these are only some of the amazing touristic attractions that you will admire here.

Ankara is the next stop, where you will first visit the Anatolian Civilization Museum, where you will admire precious collections from different periods of time. You will then head for Amasya, many surprises waiting for you on the way there. You will go back to Hittite times when you will visit Hattusa, the former capital that will impress you through its great, unique architecture. Here, you will see The Great Temple and the tomb of Yazilikaya, which is one of the most famous stone sanctuaries in the world and used to be the place where the New Year was celebrated each spring.

Amasya, the capital of the Pontic kingdom, will charm you through its amazing history and old buildings. Glorious under the rule of the Mithridates family, Amasya became a metropolis of the Pont after it was conquered by the Romans. From here, you will depart for Trabzon, going the same path that Jason used when he went in search of the Golden Fleece.

The journey to Cappadocia will bring even more unforgettable surprises, for you will visit Sivas, Kayseri – the ancient Caesarea – the underground city of Kaymakly, which consists of 8 underground levels, and the Ihlara Canyon, a true natural wonder that hosts over 60 churches carved in stone in its deep, idyllic valley.

One of the most important things is that this trip to Turkey offers so many possibilities from which you can choose what suits you best. Wine tasting, short cruises on the shores of Bosphorus, or a trip with the hot air balloon in Cappadocia – all these are at your disposal and you can choose how to spend your free time in these wonderful ancient cities.
